Emotions in Family Law Cases

Family law cases are emotional and difficult; so much so that “emotional” and “difficult” hardly begin to describe the feelings and experiences that need to be processed in the course of a case. Whether someone is working through a divorce, custody case, protection from abuse matter, or other family law issue, there are issues to be addressed in addition to the legal ones. As a family law practitioner, my job is to provide legal advice to my clients; however, I am dedicated to also providing emotional support and guidance to ensure that my clients are best able to navigate their circumstances.

It is important to ensure that financial decisions, decisions regarding custody, and other major decisions are not being made from an emotional place, but rather with a clear head and an understanding of future consequences, and without ignoring or suppressing what you’re feeling. I help to ensure that decisions are not made impulsively or quickly to resolve the immediate emotional strain, but rather are made in my client’s best interest, or the best interest of their children, for both the short and long term.
